Code of conduct

All Lithuanian Weekend is a festival to celebrate jazz music and dance based on joy and friendly support preserving its spirit and giving the respect and honor it deserves. In order to have a safe and pleasant environment for all, we believe it’s important to review a few basic points on respect and consent.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME
Regardless of age, gender, faith, sexual orientation, social background, physical appearance, ability, ethnicity, religion, nationality, dancing skills or other personal circumstances. Diversity enriches the environment, so celebrate them! Behaviors that incite, promote or consist of any discriminatory practices will not be tolerated.

HARASSMENT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED
In case you witness or be victim of harassment, or of a coercive or abusive behavior, contact the event staff or ask someone you trust to contact us so we can take the appropriate measures. In case you’re still in doubt about what harassment is, please check this page.

BE ALERT TO CONSENT
Be respectful when asking someone to dance and understand that the answer could be no, and know how to take that answer politely. Remember that a dance is a three-minute conversation between you, your partner and the song, and sometimes we don’t really want to talk – and that’s NOT a problem. Dancing with someone or finding a great connection with a partner means nothing but these things. Understand that what is acceptable during a dance may not be so out of it.

RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE’S LIMITS
Don’t force complicated movements, or far too close ones when your partner shows uncomfort. If you feel uncomfortable with the connection you have with your partner (because it’s painful, awkward, too personal or simply because you don’t like it), please let them know so they can adapt their behavior. If your partner tells you the connection feels uncomfortable for them, be open to changing what you are doing and work together so that both of you are comfortable.

HYGIENE
Use hand sanitizer and wash your hands, use deodorant, breath mints or chewing gum, bring a spare shirt or two and/or a towel.

BE CAREFUL AND ALERT ON THE FLOOR
You’re not the only one dancing. Don’t do steps that might put your partner and the others’ safety in jeopardy (no aerials on the social dance floor, no large kicks or steps when you cannot see where you’re going). Adapt your dancing to the quantity of other couples dancing around you in order to avoid accidents, and be polite in case of crashing.

BE RESPONSIBLE WITH ALCOHOLIC DRINKS
And other substances. Your space awareness, strength, and coordination may be harmed, and you may hurt yourself and others around you. Know your limits and ask for help if necessary – to ask for a taxi, a meal, or locate your personal belongings.

HELP US TO TAKE CARE OF ALL PARTICIPANTS
Please watch out for each other and help us to take care of you. If you are not sure if someone else is okay, please take a closer look: ask them for a dance to draw them away from the situation, or ask, in a friendly way, if they need help. If you see additional problems after you or someone else spoke with us about an issue, we want to hear about them too. We appreciate your help keeping us informed so we can address any issues that detract from attendees’ comfort, safety, and enjoyment.

PLEASE CONTACT ORGANISERS IF YOU NEED HELP
We PROMISE to treat any reports made with sensitivity and to keep all details as confidential as is possible. Event staff will be happy to help participants contact Safety Staff, the organizers, or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance and your safety.
